The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has rejected claims by Ali Azmayi, commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy, that Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz, calling the claims false.
In a post on X early Wednesday, October 14, CENTCOM said the commander of the IRGC Navy had no navy.
The US military claimed that American forces and their regional partners have clear control over the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM said that on Tuesday, US forces helped Gulf partners transport more than 19 million barrels of crude oil through the strait.
The statement comes after the commander of the IRGC Navy recently claimed that US vessels did not dare approach the Strait of Hormuz.
Both Iran and the United States, however, claim to control the strategic waterway.
