Simon is a Computer Science BSc graduate who has been writing about technology since 2014, and using Windows machines since 3.1. After working for an indie game studio and acting as the family's go-to technician for all computer issues, he found his passion for writing and decided to use his skill set to write about all things tech.
Since beginning his writing career, he has written for many different publications such as WorldStart, Listverse, and MakeTechEasier. However, after finding his home at MakeUseOf in February 2019, he would eventually move on to its sister site, XDA, to bring the latest and greatest in Windows, Linux, and DIY electronics.

Summary
- NexPhone will dual-boot Android, Debian Linux, and Windows 11 on a single handset.
- Shipping for the NexPhone has been delayed to March 2027 (end of Q1) after 14 years in development.
- New preorders will cost $599, but people who preordered at the original $549 won't need to pay extra.
Usually, you're only stuck with one OS on your phone, but what if you could pick between Android, Linux, and Windows 11? It sounds ambitious, but that's a major selling point for NexPhone, which has been in the works for 14 years now. The phone was originally scheduled to release later this year, but unfortunately, it has been pushed back a few months.
The NexPhone has been delayed until March 2027
What's a few more months compared to 14 years, though?
If you've never heard of it, the NexPhone is designed to run Android, Linux (specifically, Debian), and Windows 11 on a dual-boot. It has been in the works for a long time now; in fact, that video just above was posted all the way back in 2012. It was originally pencilled in to release in late 2026, but that has been pushed back. As per an updated statement on the NexPhone website:
Our estimated shipping window is now the end of Q1 2027 (March 2027). New preorders are priced at $599, and the device price remains protected for customers who reserved at either $549 or $599. NexPhone is now running Android 17 on development devices, with continued Linux and Windows development.
I'm not sure how they're going to squeeze all of that functionality into a $599 phone, but I'm more than willing to check it out when it releases. You can reserve your own on the NexPhone website if you're as interested as I am.
