The newspaper reported on KANU chairman Gideon Moi accusing President William Ruto of breaking a political agreement between them, saying he honoured his end of the deal only to be abandoned and publicly attacked alongside his family.
Speaking at his Kabarak home in Nakuru County on Friday, October 23, Gideon said he extended goodwill to Ruto out of respect for the presidency, but that the commitments they reached were never fulfilled.
He revealed that ahead of Ruto's visit to Kabarak on October 10, 2025, the two sides held several discussions aimed at easing political tensions.

During that meeting, Ruto announced a cooperation agreement with KANU ahead of the 2027 general election.
As part of that arrangement, Gideon stepped aside from defending his Baringo Senate seat and allowed UDA to field a candidate in the subsequent by-election unopposed by KANU.
Things began to unravel, Gideon said, following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on October 15, 2025. He was told to wait until the state funeral concluded before the agreement would be acted upon.
Months passed with no movement.
"After Raila's death, I was told to wait and that the deal would be implemented later. I waited until December, then Easter. I followed up, but I am still waiting," he said.
Gideon was clear about what he had asked for in return; not personal business deals or financial favours, but opportunities for professionals from his community and consideration of Baringo residents in government appointments.
He said the sacrifices cost him politically, straining relationships with allies who felt let down by his cooperation with Ruto.
"In all these discussions, I was the one who gave up the most. There are people who no longer speak to me because of that agreement; they felt betrayed," he said.
He further alleged that the public attacks directed at him were designed to deflect attention from the government's failure to keep its word.
Gideon also trained his criticism on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, accusing them of landing a helicopter on his Kabarak property without authorisation during the funeral of the daughter of Kenya Ports Authority Director General William Ruto, accompanied by armed officers.
He said his family and staff were harassed during the incident before he himself was targeted with public attacks.
He further claimed that a relative, Standard Group assistant editor Alex Kiprotich Chepkoit, was abducted, tortured, and dumped near Masinga Dam.
"I have told them to leave my family alone. Keep our children out of politics, and if they want me, they know where I live," Gideon said.
Despite the sharp criticism, he stopped short of declaring personal enmity with Ruto, acknowledging him as the country's president while insisting the broken deal could not be overlooked.
He called on Rift Valley elders and residents to free him to seek a new political direction as 2027 approaches.
