On October 18, artists celebrate their professional holiday. The day is closely associated with the Christian Church and the memory of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke. According to church tradition, St. Luke was the first Christian icon painter, credited with creating the earliest images of the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus and of the apostles Peter and Paul. He is regarded as the patron saint of artists, painters and iconographers. The Union of Bulgarian Artists, art galleries and art academies mark the occasion each year with exhibitions, award ceremonies and community gatherings.

An important event for Bulgarian art in the second half of October is the international project “Borders / ΣΥΝΟΡΑ”, which is being presented in Thessaloniki from October 13 until early November. The exhibition features works by ten Bulgarian artists across two cultural venues: the Goethe-Institut Thessaloniki and To Pikap Gallery, as Radio Bulgaria has previously reported.
The project explores questions of borders, migration, identity, humanity’s relationship with nature, and the interplay between the digital and physical worlds

The municipal administration in Panagyurishte is organising an exhibition entitled “Panagyurishte Beyond the Clichés” to mark the town’s holiday. It invites participants to offer their personal perspectives on the town beyond its familiar historical symbols, traditional themes and iconic views. The exhibition will open on October 19 in the foyer of the Panagyurishte Municipal Hall and will be on display until the end of the year.
