American ultra-low-cost carrier Allegiant Air has cut routes from its network in the Florida Panhandle, as the airline terminated eight nonstop flights from Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS). The airline, which remains the third-largest carrier at the airport located in the Emerald Coast in Okaloosa County, will see approximately 32 weekly departures this coming November.
Allegiant has remained the largest operator at Destin-Fort Walton by the number of destinations served from the airport, with a total of 26 destinations, down from 34 the same time last year. Data for this article has been sourced from Cirium, an online aviation analytics company.
Five Routes Cut By Allegiant From The South
As Allegiant reviewed its operations at Destin-Fort Walton Beach, the airline made the decision to restructure its operations at the airport and deploy the aircraft onto other more lucrative routes from other major Florida airports. As a result, the airline's termination of eight routes to Destin-Fort Walton Beach is most affected by services to the country's south.
In August this year, the airline shaved four nonstop routes to Lexington, Shreveport, Asheville, and Memphis, leaving all of these routes unserved by any other airline.

Two Services Cut To the Midwest, And Other Further West
Allegiant has cut its nonstop services to Las Vegas
Harry Reid International Airport (LAS), the only route to the country's west. This direct link to the airline's home base leaves the Florida panhandle airport without a nonstop link to the city of sin. In the same month, services to Evansville and Bridgeport have also gone offline as the airline redeploys its aircraft elsewhere in its network.
Allegiant's business model frequently stands out due to its nonstop point-to-point network that operates between smaller underserved regional airports and key leisure destinations. This enables travelers to bypass major hubs and layovers. This, however, is primarily to attract leisure travelers, who are price-conscious. Check out the full list of routes cut to the Midwest and West below:

Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport is shared with the Elgin Air Force Base, and is approximately 16 miles (25 km) from downtown Destin. The airport is restricted to commercial air traffic or Air Force operations; all non-commercial and general aviation or business aircraft are required to use the nearby Destin Executive Airport (DSI).
Allegiant Cuts Its Nonstop Service From Destin-Fort Walton To Huntington
The sole route to the country's Northeast was axed in August as Allegiant shaved Destin-Fort Walton to Tri-State Airport (HTS) in Huntington from its route map. This comes as seasonal demand shifts, and the airline refocuses its Florida operations from the West Virginia airport to
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB), Punta Gorda (PGD), and St. Peterburg/Clearwater (PIE). Destin-Fort Walton's route cut to Huntington is detailed in the table below:

Allegiant is the largest operator at Huntington, with a total of four remaining domestic routes to Florida and a seasonal link to Myrtle Beach. The only other operator at the airport is American Airlines ( American Eagle), with year-round operations to
Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT).
