Nick Sirianni is facing one of the toughest stretches of his Philadelphia Eagles tenure, with a disappointing start to the 2026 NFL season putting his leadership under the microscope.
After three consecutive defeats, frustration is growing among fans, but franchise legend Michael Vick has delivered a clear message: the coach deserves more time.
Commanders’ Tyler Owens goes viral after bulldozing Eagles blockers on insane special teams play
Philadelphia has fallen to 2-3 after losing to the Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars.
The latest setback was particularly painful, as the Eagles appeared to have secured a victory in London before a late Jacksonville comeback turned a narrow lead into a 19-17 defeat.
The team's official record and upcoming schedule underline the urgency of the situation, with Carolina next before a major divisional clash against Dallas.
Vick, who starred for Philadelphia during his playing career, believes supporters should not overlook what Sirianni and quarterback Jalen Hurts have accomplished together.
Speaking about the growing criticism, he urged Eagles fans to show patience rather than immediately demanding a coaching change.
"It's just a couple more years, year to, it'll start a trend back in the right direction," Vick said.
"And then they got the right coach too, man. Everybody need to get off Nick's back, man. Sometimes I like to use my platform to say what I want to say. This is your platform. So right now I got the floor.
"I'm just saying, man, you got a good leader and a great coach and you got that tandem of head coach and quarterback. Leave it alone. I love, I ain't gonna disrespect our Eagles fans, but I'm always telling the truth because they real. But let this combination ride out, baby. Don't get too impatient right now. You know what I'm saying? Work yourself out."
Vick's comments offer a different perspective at a time when criticism of Sirianni has intensified. The coach guided Philadelphia to two Super Bowl appearances and won Super Bowl LIX, building one of the strongest records of any head coach to begin an NFL career in the modern era.
According to the Eagles' official profile, Sirianni entered his sixth season with a 59-26 record and five consecutive postseason appearances.
The Jacksonville loss has put Sirianni under the spotlight
The frustration surrounding Sirianni is not simply the result of losing games. It is the manner in which Philadelphia has let opportunities slip away, particularly in the closing stages of contests.
Against Jacksonville, Jake Elliott converted a 48-yard field goal to put the Eagles ahead 17-16 with just eight seconds remaining. The Jaguars had no timeouts, leaving Philadelphia with what appeared to be a straightforward path to victory.
However, the Eagles allowed Ameer Abdullah to return the kickoff rather than directing it toward a touchback.
Abdullah's return gave Jacksonville an unexpected opportunity to respond. Kicker Cam Little subsequently made a 57-yard field goal as time expired, handing the Jaguars a dramatic 19-17 win. It was a costly sequence for Philadelphia, and Sirianni did not attempt to shift responsibility elsewhere.
"I didn't make the right decision, and it cost us the game," he said. "There's no other way around it. There's nothing really else to say about that. It's just I didn't do my job good enough in that situation."
The coach also acknowledged the mistake in his postgame comments, saying: "Again, bad job by me."
Those admissions have not stopped the debate about his future. The Jacksonville defeat followed other disappointing results, including a 27-7 loss to Chicago and a 24-20 defeat against the Rams.
Philadelphia has now suffered consecutive fourth-quarter collapses, increasing scrutiny of its ability to finish games.
However, not every former Eagle believes the head coach should carry the entire burden. LeSean McCoy, another prominent former Philadelphia running back, argued that the offensive unit also deserves criticism.
"First of all, I'm gonna blame the offense first, right?" McCoy said on his Speakeasy show with Emmanuel Acho. "We can look at Nick Sirianni and blame this and blame that, but the truth is the offense did not play well. The defense played great!"
His comments highlight a central problem for Philadelphia: while Sirianni's late-game choices have attracted attention, the offense has struggled to provide consistent production.
The injury to Saquon Barkley has made that challenge more difficult. Barkley left the Jacksonville game with a hamstring problem, subsequently described as week-to-week.
Without his usual contribution on the ground, Dameon Pierce managed only 14 rushing yards on 11 carries, placing additional pressure on Hurts to generate offense through the air.
Hurts completed 21 of 40 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown against Jacksonville, but the offense struggled to find rhythm. Philadelphia's difficulties after halftime have also become a concern, leaving the team vulnerable even when it manages to build a lead.
The next two games could therefore prove important in determining the direction of the season. Carolina visits Philadelphia on October 18, before the Eagles host Dallas on October 26.
Two stronger performances could ease some of the pressure on Sirianni, while further defeats would likely intensify calls for the organisation to consider its options.
Despite the criticism, Sirianni still has a substantial record of success to draw upon. His championship and postseason achievements give him a stronger case for patience than a coach without comparable results. Yet past accomplishments will not protect him indefinitely if Philadelphia continues to struggle.
For now, Vick is asking Eagles supporters to give the coach-quarterback partnership time to recover.
Whether that patience proves justified will depend on what happens on the field. Sirianni has acknowledged his mistakes, but the next step is to show that he and his team can learn from them before a difficult start becomes a season-defining failure.
