LG Corp. (003550) has begun a series of annual business review meetings chaired by Chairman Kwang-mo Koo to set next year's business strategy, including artificial intelligence. The group plans to focus on strengthening cooperation with Big Tech firms such as Nvidia and Microsoft to secure a leading position in core markets including physical AI and data centers.
LG said the meetings opened on the 19th at LG Twin Towers in Seoul's Yeongdeungpo district. The annual review brings together Koo and the chief executives of each affiliate for about a month to assess this year's performance and draw up next year's business plans. The sessions begin with LG Electronics (066570), followed by LG Display (034220), LG Innotek (011070), LG Energy Solution (373220), LG Chem (051910), LG Uplus and LG CNS.
This year's meetings are expected to center on new businesses such as AI data centers and physical AI, areas LG is expanding through its "One LG" strategy that mobilizes the capabilities of group affiliates. Robot business strategies that affiliates are pursuing with the aim of market entry next year will be a key agenda item.
LG Electronics is jointly developing a humanoid robot with Nvidia, targeting an unveiling in the first quarter of next year, and is accumulating 100,000 hours of large-scale robot data this year at its Yangjae Data Factory in Seoul's Seocho district. Following its home robot "LG CLOiD," the company also unveiled an actuator called "Axium" that functions as a joint. Other affiliates are cooperating by developing organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels, camera modules, batteries and communications technology for robots.
Plans to expand cooperation with Nvidia and Microsoft, LG's main Big Tech partners, and follow-up implementation steps are also on the agenda. LG has formed partnerships with Nvidia in physical AI, AI factories and mobility, and is broadening the cooperation beyond robot development into areas such as cooling systems for data centers. The group has also built a partnership with Microsoft spanning AI infrastructure.
The outcome of the meetings will be reflected in year-end executive appointments and organizational changes. At a meeting of group presidents on Sept. 17, LG reviewed investment results and strategy focused on key battlegrounds in AI. Koo urged executives to move quickly and execute relentlessly so the group can win in the future battlegrounds of AI.
