During the past 15 years, the wealth of the richest 10% in Portugal increased approximately 90%, exceeding €628 billion in the first quarter of 2026.
The data comes from new statistics by the Bank of Portugal, which analyse the evolution and distribution of household wealth.
Valued assets
These numbers regard real estate, bank deposits, and company equity stakes. Taking other assets into account, such as debt securities, investment funds and non-residential real estate, the wealth of this group reached €755 billion, 70% more than in 2010.
Disproportionate increase
By contrast, the 50% of families with the fewest resources saw an increase of approximately 25% in their total assets over the same time period. In the first quarter of 2026, this group held wealth valued at approximately €145 billion, CNN Portugal reports.
Post-pandemic real estate value
Real estate stands out among the assets of the wealthiest, with a 76% increase in value over the past 15 years. This is mainly due to rising prices, particularly evident since the end of the pandemic, according to the Bank of Portugal.
