The Houston Texans running back situation is starting to get a little precarious. They were supposed to be able to rely on David Montgomery to be the lead back, but he is clearly not the running back he used to be and is also injured for their game against the New York Giants this Sunday.
In their Week 6 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston turned to Woody Marks and Jawhar Jordan. However, Jordan is also injured and will not be able to play against the Giants, meaning their top running backs are now Marks and Dare Ogunbowale.
Oungbowale, known for his special teams contributions, has only started one game since 2023. Despite the situation, Texans offensive coordinator Nick Caley is fully confident in their running back room.
"Woody will get a good amount of carries. We've got faith in Dare,” Caley said. “It's like he was just here. He was just here, but it's like he hadn't left, I should say is the better way to say it. There's nothing that we have that he's not able to function and same with the guys that we have there relative to the game plan. We hone that in on the early part of the week. We rep it and we work through it. We have faith whoever's out there, we have faith that we're going to put them in the best position and certainly Woody obviously has been in charge of that."
Houston’s run game has struggled to get going no matter who they have had at running back so far this season. However, they have a chance to exploit a vulnerable Giants defense, which has given up the fourth-most rushing yards of any team in the NFL.
Kickoff from Reliant Stadium is scheduled for Noon CT. The game will be televised on FOX.
