Stability of Ghana's economy is attracting strong interest from global investors - Mahama

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows into Ghana surged to US$2.62 billion in 2025, up from US$624 million in 2024, President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for the new 1,238-acre Afienya Industrial Park, President Mahama said the influx of foreign capital proves renewed investor confidence and a stabilising macroeconomic environment.

The President attributed the growth to falling inflation, declining interest rates, and a more stable local currency, which have made Ghana an attractive destination for long-term investment.

“The stability of the Ghanaian economy is attracting strong interest from global investors,” President Mahama said. “It reflects growing confidence in government leadership and our deliberate effort to direct investments into high-impact, viable sectors.”

Mr Mahama highlighted the Tema Export Processing Zone’s enduring impact over the past three decades, calling it a blueprint for future industrial initiatives.

Citing figures from the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), the President noted that the Tema zone has nurtured more than 80 industrial enterprises, generated over $24 billion in cumulative export revenue over 30 years, and exported US$3.1 billion worth of goods in 2025 alone. With US$1.4 billion recorded in the first half of 2026, the country is on track to match or surpass the previous year’s performance.

The zone has also sustained over 78,000 direct jobs, with 98% held by Ghanaians.

“Behind these figures are real households in Tema, Ashaiman, Shai Hills, and surrounding communities whose livelihoods depend on these opportunities,” Mahama said. “We must build on that experience to ensure new industrial hubs offer reliable services, stronger links with local businesses, and lasting value for host communities.”

The President assured prospective local and international investors that the new Afienya Industrial Park is designed to eliminate common operational bottlenecks.

He noted that the 1,238-acre land parcel is litigation-free and will be fully serviced with electricity, water, road access, and digital infrastructure to ensure swift factory setups.

“At Afienya, our goal is to translate industrial policy into tangible, practical opportunities for businesses and job seekers alike,” he noted.

President Mahama said the ongoing industrial expansion underpins the government’s flagship New Economy Policy, scheduled to roll out in 2027. The policy is expected to accelerate structural transformation, boost domestic value addition, and position Ghana as an export powerhouse within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
