Migori Youth FC began their Kenyan Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Police FC at Awendo Green Stadium on Sunday.
Captain Vincent Wanga gave the newcomers an early lead, finding the back of the net in the fifth minute to put the hosts ahead in front of their home supporters.
Migori Youth made a bright start against their more experienced opponents, but Police FC restored parity just before the break through Brian Chonjo, who scored in the 44th minute.
Neither side managed to find a winning goal in the second half, forcing the teams to settle for a point apiece in Migori Youth’s first-ever appearance in the top flight.
Migori Youth head coach Salim Babu praised his players for executing their game plan, particularly their early attacking approach.
“We wanted to start the game strongly and put pressure on Police FC from the onset. Scoring early was part of our plan, and I am happy with the way the players executed it. We showed commitment throughout the match, and getting a point against a team of Police FC’s calibre is a positive start for us,” Babu said.
The draw provides an encouraging start for Migori Youth as they seek to establish themselves in the top flight after earning promotion.
Police FC, who won the 2024/2025 league title before finishing third in the 2025/2026 season, will be disappointed to have dropped points after conceding early.
Elsewhere, fellow newcomers 3K FC shared the spoils with Mara Sugar in a 2-2 draw, while Nairobi United and KCB also played out a 2-2 stalemate.
Tusker FC were the only winners among Sunday’s four fixtures, recording a 2-0 victory over Ulinzi Stars to collect maximum points.
