Ghana is facilitating the transportation of approximately 40% of Burkina Faso’s petroleum products, up from 15% two years ago, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has disclosed.
He disclosed in a Facebook post on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, following a courtesy call by a delegation from Burkina Faso’s national petroleum company, Société Nationale Burkinabè d’Hydrocarbures (SONABHY).
The delegation was led by the company’s newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, Forogo Patrice, who expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana for its continued support in facilitating the procurement and transit of petroleum products through the country.
According to Dr Jinapor, the delegation called for deeper collaboration to strengthen the existing partnership between the two countries.
The meeting also explored opportunities to improve cooperation in petroleum transportation and supply, deepen regional energy collaboration and advance shared priorities for the mutual benefit of Ghana and Burkina Faso.
The increase from 15% to approximately 40% in the share of Burkina Faso’s petroleum products transported through Ghana over two years highlights the growing importance of Ghana’s transit arrangements to Burkina Faso’s fuel supply chain.
The engagement is expected to provide an opportunity for both countries to explore further cooperation in petroleum logistics and regional energy supply, building on their existing partnership.
