The decision came after a crucial meeting with Assam Cabinet Ministers Keshab Mahanta and Pijush Hazarika on Thursday. Gogoi, however, clarified that the protest had only been suspended and not called off.

Assam MLA and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi on Thursday called off his over 300-hour sit-in protest after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assured action on demands concerning compensation for flood-affected families in Upper Assam.
The decision came meeting after cabinet ministers Keshab Mahanta and Pijush Hazarika at the protest site outside the Assam Legislative Assembly in Dispur and conveyed the Chief Minister’s assurances.
Gogoi had launched the indefinite protest on October 2, demanding compensation for flood-hit families in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat districts following the devastating floods on July 19.
His key demands included interim financial assistance of Rs 15,000 for eligible affected families, an additional Rs 10,000 for flood-hit people in Sivasagar and Charaideo, an inquiry into the disaster and reconstruction of damaged roads.
While Gogoi had sought a CBI investigation into the floods, the government has agreed to a high-level inquiry by an expert committee. The Chief Minister’s decision on the proposed additional Rs 10,000 assistance remains subject to a survey.
The government has also agreed to provide Rs 15,000 each to 3,068 affected families in the Sivasagar constituency, involving an expenditure of over Rs 4.60 crore. The administration is expected to address claims from eligible families left out of existing beneficiary lists
