By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police have recovered a stolen Toyota SUV and detained two persons of interest following an aggravated burglary in Burrell Boom Village, Belize District, early Wednesday morning.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith said the incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on October 14, when a resident was awakened by noises inside his home. Upon investigating, he was confronted and assaulted by an intruder before being restrained.
The victim reportedly observed three other men inside the residence. The assailants ransacked the property and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash, jewellery, a cellphone and his Toyota SUV.
Smith said police subsequently issued an alert for the stolen vehicle, which was spotted by officers patrolling Santa Familia Village in the Cayo District. A pursuit followed, during which the occupants abandoned the SUV and fled.
The vehicle was recovered and processed for forensic evidence, including fingerprints, as investigators worked to identify those responsible.
Smith confirmed that two persons of interest have been detained, while another individual is being sought in connection with the burglary.
The stolen vehicle was previously reported to be a burgundy 2017 Toyota Rush taken from a residence in Burrell Boom.
