India vs. Zimbabwe 1st T20I Live Score & Updates
Welcome to CricketNews.com's live coverage of the 1st T20I between India and Zimbabwe at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.
After 6 overs, ZIM are 34/1
- Kranti Gaud struck in the very first over (0.6 ov), trapping opener Beloved Biza leg-before for a 4-ball duck after Zimbabwe had posted 7 runs.
- Despite the early loss, 18-year-old opener Kelis Ndhlovu took the attack to the Indian bowlers. Backing her boundary options, she anchored the phase aggressively, scoring the vast majority of Zimbabwe’s runs at a brisk clip as she reached 23 off 19 by the 5th over.
- Modester Mupachikwa joined Ndhlovu at No. 3 and played a cautious anchor role (5 off 13), rotating strike sparingly to let Ndhlovu take on the seamers.
Toss result:
India will bowl first.
Pre-match:
Smriti Mandhana starts her full-time stint as India’s T20I captain on Friday in Raipur, and the series against Zimbabwe gives her a chance to make the transition look smooth from the very first day.
The change at the top marks a new phase for the side, and the early performances will be closely watched by fans.
Mandhana is not new to the job, having already led the team on several occasions, but being handed the role permanently is a different kind of responsibility.
The expectation now is that she will set the tone for the group over a longer period, rather than simply fill in when needed. A clean start against Zimbabwe would help her settle into the role and give the dressing room a sense of stability.
