Germany has outlined the steps for applying for selected long-stay visas through its Consular Services Portal, allowing eligible applicants to complete application forms and upload supporting documents online before booking an appointment.
The German Embassy disclosed this in a post on its official X handle on Wednesday, directing applicants to the portal at digitaldiplo.de/visa.
The online service covers selected national visa categories for people planning to stay in Germany for more than 90 days.
These include student visas, EU Blue Cards, vocational training visas and family reunification visas.
Applicants are required to visit the portal, select their destination country, the relevant German diplomatic mission and the appropriate visa category before completing the online application form.
They must also upload the required supporting documents and submit their applications for review by the consular authorities.
After submission, applicants are advised to monitor their applications for feedback.
Consular officials may request corrections to the information provided or ask for additional documents before the application can proceed.
Once an application is ready for the next stage, applicants should follow the instructions from the relevant German mission to schedule an appointment.

However, the portal does not cover every German visa category. Applicants must therefore confirm that their intended visa type is eligible for online processing before beginning the procedure.
Short-stay Schengen visas
Those planning to visit Germany for 90 days or less, including for holidays, family visits or short business trips, must follow the applicable Schengen visa application process.
The online portal is intended for selected national visa applications for longer stays and should not be confused with the separate procedure for short-term visits.
Prospective travellers are advised to check the requirements and application procedures published by the relevant German embassy or consulate before submitting their applications.
Applicants should also select the correct visa category and provide all required documents to minimise delays during processing.
While the portal allows eligible applicants to complete the initial stages digitally, appointments and subsequent procedures remain subject to the instructions of the responsible German diplomatic mission.
