Student activist Iva Brkic told N1 that she expects a huge crowd at the Student List final campaign event in Belgrade’s central Slavija Square on Thursday evening.
Campaigning for the October 25 parliamentary elections ends at midnight on the night of Thursday-Friday. Under Serbian law, a 48 hour period of silence comes into effect oprior to the vote, ending when polling stations close on Sunday night.
Brkic said participants would head to the square from six locations across the capital, with the first groups setting off at 4 pm from the University School of Agriculture in Zemun. Organizers said the rally, scheduled to begin at 6 pm., will feature presentations of parts of the Student List's program and speeches by prominent student activists. She said the list recruited around 60,000 election monitors, including monitors abroad.
Asked about possible disruptions to public transport, Brkic said participants were prepared to walk if necessary and would organize their own security.
The Serbian Progressive Party is holding its own campaign rally at the Ranko Zeravica Sports Hall in New Belgrade at the same time.
