Giants’ Cam Skattebo allegedly out of doghouse, at least based on what Matt Nagy said appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Cam Skattebo may be getting back into the New York Giants’ good graces after his recent demotion, and offensive coordinator Matt Nagy’s latest comments suggest the running back handled the situation exactly how the coaching staff wanted.
According to Dan Duggan, Nagy praised Skattebo for how he responded to last week’s reduced role, calling his reaction “impressive” and describing him as a “true pro.” After Skattebo failed to receive a single carry last week, those comments could signal that the second-year running back is moving past the coaching staff’s decision to sideline him.
Skattebo’s lack of production has become a concern as the Giants continue searching for answers in the running game. After showing promise, the young back has struggled to establish consistency, and the coaching staff’s decision to leave him without a carry last week was a clear indication that his role was no longer guaranteed.

However, how a player responds to adversity can matter just as much as what happens on the field. Skattebo accepted the demotion without creating a distraction, giving the coaching staff another reason to trust him moving forward.
That does not guarantee an immediate return to a featured role, but Nagy’s praise is an encouraging sign for the Giants running back.
With J.J. McCarthy starting this week, Skattebo could have an opportunity to reset and find his footing again. A more effective running game would help take pressure off the quarterback while giving New York another dimension offensively.
Skattebo still needs to prove himself with his production, but his response to last week’s demotion appears to have put him in a better position to do so. If he gets another opportunity, he will need to make the most of it.
