A woman suspected to be a Bangladeshi national has been detained by police in Gujarat’s Junagadh after an investigation reportedly revealed that she had been living under different names and at multiple addresses across several cities.
Police recovered Aadhaar cards bearing different names and around four SIM cards from her possession, according to the initial findings.
The woman was detained after police received information about a suspected Bangladeshi national living in the Madhuram area of Junagadh. Acting on the information, police conducted a raid at the location and began verifying her identity and documents.
On October 12, the woman identified herself as Mithila Roy, according to the information provided.
However, during document verification the following day, investigators reportedly identified her as Khalida Begum, a resident of Narayanganj in Bangladesh.
The investigation is now focused on establishing her identity, tracing her movements across India and determining when and how she entered the country.
WOMAN REPORTEDLY USED DIFFERENT NAMES ACROSS CITIES
Preliminary findings indicate that the woman had lived in Nalasopara, Surat and Junagadh under different identities. She had reportedly visited Junagadh three to four times, each time using a different identity.
Police also recovered Aadhaar cards bearing different names and around four SIM cards from her possession. These documents and communication devices are being examined as part of the investigation into her identity and activities.
Purchase receipts from e-commerce platforms Flipkart and Amazon have also reportedly provided information about the different addresses associated with the woman. Investigators are examining these details to establish where she had been staying and how frequently she changed her place of residence.
According to the preliminary investigation, she is suspected to have been living in India for approximately three years. However, the exact duration of her stay and the circumstances under which she entered the country have not yet been established.
MULTIPLE AGENCIES QUESTIONING WOMAN
The woman is currently being kept at the Sakhi One Stop Centre, according to the information provided. Various agencies are jointly questioning her as part of the ongoing investigation.
Investigators are trying to determine when and how she entered India, why she allegedly used different identities and whether there are other details about her movements that require further inquiry.
The findings regarding her identity and length of stay remain subject to further investigation. Authorities are continuing to examine the documents, SIM cards and purchase receipts recovered during the operation to establish the full sequence of events.
