In telephone conversations with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Prime Minister Rumen Radev called for joint efforts to halt attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea, the press service of the Council of Ministers reported.
Both expressed their appreciation for Bulgaria’s swift response in rescuing the sailors in distress, as well as their solidarity with the country following the attacks on merchant vessels near its territorial waters. They also expressed their readiness to provide allied support in clarifying the circumstances surrounding the incidents. For his part, the prime minister once again called for assistance to strengthen Bulgaria’s maritime and airspace surveillance and monitoring capabilities.
European Council President António Costa also issued a statement expressing the European Council’s solidarity with Bulgaria following last night’s strikes. He added that Russia’s growing hybrid activities would be discussed at the upcoming EU meeting in Brussels.
