The Dallas Cowboys are facing mounting pressure after a disappointing start to the 2026 season; however, owner Jerry Jones is not ready to sound the alarm. Despite growing criticism of head coach Brian Schottenheimer and the coaching staff, the owner believes the organization has the structure and personnel needed to turn things around.
The Cowboys sit at 2-4 following a 23-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 6. With questions emerging about the team’s coaching decisions, defensive struggles, and disappointing results, Jones has offered a firm vote of confidence in the staff as the Cowboys look to get their season back on track.
Jerry Jones Expresses Confidence In Brian Schottenheimer And The Cowboys’ Coaching Staff
Jones recently addressed the Cowboys’ situation during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan, pushing back against concerns about the team’s coaching structure. The Cowboys owner believes the staff is positioned to identify its shortcomings and make the necessary adjustments.
Jones said while discussing the head coach and the coaching staff, according to Cowboys reporter Jon Machota.
“We’re in good shape,”
“I’m very confident. … We have every reason to believe we’ll make the right adjustments.”

His comments come amid increasing scrutiny of Schottenheimer, who is in his second season as the Cowboys’ HC. Their 2-4 record has intensified questions about whether the current coaching setup can deliver better results, particularly as the defense struggles to contain opposing offenses.
The criticism has also extended to Jones’ approach to coaching salaries. NFL insider Josina Anderson suggested that Cowboys ownership wanted to keep Schottenheimer and his coordinators at league-average salaries for their respective positions. Critics have questioned whether the Cowboys have invested enough in experienced coaching leadership despite its willingness to spend on high-profile players.
Schottenheimer’s offensive group features quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens; still, the Cowboys have struggled to produce consistent results. Their running game has also been a concern, while defensive coordinator Christian Parker faces the challenge of establishing a dependable unit in his first season leading a defense.
Jones has already taken steps to provide additional support on that side of the ball, bringing in veteran coach Mike Pettine as a senior assistant to Parker. The owner has also indicated that Dallas could remain active in seeking reinforcements as the season progresses.
For now, Jones’ public stance suggests that major coaching changes are not imminent. However, with the Cowboys needing wins to revive their playoff hopes, continued struggles could test that confidence. Their upcoming matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles presents an important opportunity to respond, especially with the NFC East still within reach.
