A former police general and presidential adviser has been arrested after allegedly being found in possession of more than 100 rounds of police-issued ammunition and documents linked to the investigation into the murder of Lieutenant-General Sindile Mfazi.
The 57-year-old was arrested by the SAPS National Cold Case Unit and is expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
In a statement, police said the ammunition seized included rounds for R5 rifles and 9mm firearms, despite the former general having left the South African Police Service in 2009.
The arrest follows a search-and-seizure operation at his Centurion home on July 6, 2026. During the operation, investigators confiscated documents and electronic devices believed to be relevant to the investigation into Mfazi’s murder.
“During the operation, investigators also seized documents and electronic devices believed to be relevant to the investigation into the murder of Lieutenant-General Sindile Mfazi,” police said.
According to police, there is no valid reason for the former officer to possess the state-issued ammunition.
He faces a charge under the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000. iT
