Samsung is expected to play a major role in what analysts predict will be a 44% increase in foldable display shipments in 2026, thanks to the popularity of wider foldables.
Samsung provides display panels for both the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and iPhone Duo, both of which have gained a massive amount of attention in the last couple of months. That’s credited to the form factor – a refreshing change from the tall and narrow Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, or the devices that emulate the same experience.
Analysts at Omdia reported their forecast for 2026 in the wake of renewed interest in foldables, driven by Samsung and Apple. The report states that foldable AMOLED display shipments are expected to increase by 44% year-over-year. That includes shipments for any foldable displays, but it’s signaled by the surge of wide foldables released or rumored this year.
That increase would be driven by Samsung, if the prediction plays out perfectly. Samsung currently holds a majority lead in foldable display shipments, but it’s possible its slice grows to 66% in 2026. Omdia predicts that current Chinese manufacturers with high shipments will see a decline as demand from Apple and Samsung grows.
It’s unlikely we’ll see Samsung and Apple dominate the wide fold market. Motorola is expected to launch a similar foldable, and more will chase the size and shape Apple landed on for its first foldable iPhone.
