Kim Ji-yong, the first head of South Korea's Serious Crimes Investigation Agency, reported for duty on the 16th and began formal work.
The National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee held a confirmation hearing for Kim on the 14th and adopted the hearing report the following day, on the 15th. President Lee Jae-myung approved the appointment the same day, resolving concerns over a leadership vacuum at the agency two weeks after its launch.
Lee nominated Kim on Sept. 7, but some within the ruling bloc objected, calling him an ally of former President Yoon Suk-yeol. Lee dismissed those concerns, saying Kim's record showed he had opposed Yoon rather than supported him.
