KUALA LUMPUR: Local creative players are set for a major boost as the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) opens applications for its RM15 million Creative Content Fund (DKK) starting Nov 16.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the financial boost would help local talent collaborate internationally, nurture new creators, and produce fresh content for the fast-changing digital market.
The funding covers six main categories: the International Co-Production Fund (Feature Film or Animated Feature), the First Time Amateur Filmmaker (FAME) Fund, the Super Telefilm TV Programme Co-Production Fund, the Broadcaster/OTT Platform Micro Drama Co-Production Fund, the Veteran Artist Super Telefilm (STAR) Fund, and the National Public Service Announcement (PSA) Production Fund.
"The RM15 million allocation opens up avenues for emerging talents, expands international collaborations, provides space for veteran artistes to continue creating, and encourages the production of new content formats such as micro-dramas to meet digital market demands," Fahmi told reporters during the Anugerah Seri Angkasa (ASA) 2026 grand finale last night.
Local industry players can apply online through the Creative Industry Management and Monitoring System (SPPIK) at sppik.finas.my from the opening date.
Fahmi added that FINAS will share full guidelines, eligibility rules, and application steps on its official website and social media pages, urging local talent to seize the opportunity.
Turning to the prestigious broadcasting event, Fahmi stressed that the 37th edition of ASA was much more than a glamorous awards ceremony.
Instead, it serves as a meaningful way for the government to show its deep appreciation for everyone in the industry.
He noted that the recognition honours both on-screen personalities and the unsung heroes working behind the scenes, who all play a key role in sharing information, delivering quality entertainment, and boosting Malaysia's cultural identity and creative economy.
"On behalf of the government, Anugerah Seri Angkasa is not merely an awards ceremony, but a recognition of the contributions made by the entire broadcasting industry — covering those who work in front of the camera and behind the scenes in delivering information, producing quality entertainment, and strengthening Malaysia's identity and creative economy.
"The Madani government, through the Communications Ministry, will continue to strengthen the creative industry ecosystem through funding facilities, opportunities for fresh talent, and encouragement for the production of quality, competitive local content," he said.
At the ASA 2026 grand finale, held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, Datuk Rahim Razali received the prestigious Tokoh Seri Angkasa lifetime achievement award.
The top honours for best television drama went to Selampai Labung and Generasi: Perfect 10.
Azhan Rani and Noorkhiriah swept the main acting categories, while Bade Hj Azmi was named best director.
