By Zoila Palma: Minister of Economic Transformation Dr. Osmond Martinez met with senior representatives of the Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) on Thursday, October 22, 2026, to discuss potential financing opportunities for major development projects in Belize.
The delegation included Seo Jung-hwa, Executive Director and Head of the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) Operations Group, and Eunho Hwang, Director General of the EDCF Operations Department.
Discussions focused on Belize’s eligibility to access financing through the EDCF for the construction of three hospitals: Belize City, Northern Regional Hospital and Punta Gorda.
The proposed funding would be channelled through the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), potentially supporting improvements to the country’s healthcare infrastructure and access to medical services.
The meeting also addressed a middle-income housing programme that would provide financing through low-interest loans from the Development Finance Corporation (DFC).
