New York Giants coach John Harbaugh said on Monday afternoon that the Giants have not yet made a decision who their starting starting quarterback will be on Sunday against the Houston Texans.
“We’re working through that now. Honing in on a decision,” Harbaugh said via Zoom.
The Giants, of course, have a decision to make after J.J. McCarthy threw for 243 yards and led the Giants from a34-10 deficit to the brink of a stunning comeback on Sunday in a 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints.
What will the decision be based on?
“Absolutely like every other personnel decision we make what gives us the best chance to win the football game at this given time or what combination of players and schemes and things like that give us the best chance to, in this case, move the ball, score points, protect the football, etc.,” Harbaugh said. “The things that help us win. Whatever it is that furthers us and helps us. That’s what we want to do.”
The Giants are without starting quarterback Jaxson Dart after he suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 2. Winston took over as the starter in Week 3, and has gone 2-1-1. McCarthy was acquired Sept. 28 from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a fifth-round pick.
“Jameis has done a great job in so many ways. I just admire him and respect him for it,” Harbaugh said. “He’s helped us win games. Did what he had to do to win games, and that’s something you value very much.
“J.J. just got here a couple weeks ago. Where do we stand? We’re trying to put an offense together that he’s got a feel for and those kind of things. All those things are things you factor in.”
