Eco upgrades stablecoin API with quoted settlement or automatic refunds

Eco has upgraded its stablecoin API to let businesses set settlement conditions before sending funds, addressing execution costs that the company says can reach $10,000 on a $1 million transfer when prices differ by 1%.

Eco, in an announcement shared with crypto.news, said its Oct. 14 upgrade gives developers control over how stablecoin payments are priced, executed and settled, with funds refunded when the agreed requirements cannot be met.

For businesses moving large sums, the company described price differences, failed transactions and uncertain settlement across separate blockchain networks as financial risks. Its upgraded application programming interface lets developers define the conditions for a transfer before money moves, rather than accepting whatever execution price becomes available during processing.

According to the announcement, the San Francisco-based platform supports higher-value payment flows, treasury operations and automated deposits and payouts. Eco said its single integration covers the transaction from the initial quote through settlement, including any conversion or movement between supported networks.

Eco stablecoin API ties settlement to preset requirements

Under the upgraded system, Eco said a business can specify transaction requirements in advance and have funds settle at the quoted amount. If the transaction cannot satisfy those requirements, the company says the money is refunded under its all-or-nothing execution model.

Explaining the financial stakes, Eco used the example of a $1 million stablecoin transfer. A 1% difference between the quoted price and the price at execution would cost the business $10,000, according to the announcement.

Ryne Saxe, Eco’s CEO and co-founder, said enterprise customers need control over individual transactions as payment and treasury volumes increase.

“On a million-dollar transaction, even a small difference in execution price can translate into thousands of dollars in unexpected costs.”

Saxe said customers need “confidence that funds will only move when their requirements are met,” describing the API as a way to place those controls directly inside the payment process.

For companies accepting stablecoin payments, Eco also identified a practical mismatch between the assets customers hold and the assets a business uses in its operations. According to the company, converting incoming funds or moving them to another network introduces execution risk while creating a separate need to credit payments to the correct accounts.

Live quotes precede deposits into programmable addresses

With Programmable Addresses V2 integrated into the API, Eco said users receive a live quote before funding a dedicated address. The company describes the quote as the best available price across its supported liquidity sources.

Once the address receives funds, Eco said it handles the conversion and cross-chain movement needed to complete the transaction. According to the announcement, transfers finish in seconds and carry auditable links to the relevant account or invoice for reconciliation.

For integrators, Eco said the address system allows them to control how and where a payment settles without building their own infrastructure for routing, conversion, and reconciliation. The company presented pricing visibility before funding as part of that process, alongside the transaction conditions developers set.

The announcement also states that the same API supports outgoing payments across supported networks. For repeat incoming payments, Eco said permanent addresses accommodate recurring deposits, while additional asset and network coverage will allow customers to expand acceptance and payouts using their existing execution requirements.

B2B stablecoin payments reached a $226 billion annualized pace

In research published Feb. 18, McKinsey and Artemis estimated that B2B stablecoin payments reached an annualized pace of about $226 billion based on December 2025 activity. Their analysis found that the category increased 733% year over year and represented roughly 60% of identified stablecoin payment volume.

Across payment categories, the researchers put annualized stablecoin payments at approximately $390 billion. McKinsey said much of the far larger transaction activity visible on blockchains consists of trading, internal fund movements and automated activity rather than payments to end users.

For business-payment estimates, the report examined activity associated with custody and treasury providers, then adjusted for trading and internal transfers. McKinsey and Artemis also checked transaction sizes against conventional B2B payment data, excluding market makers and high-frequency trading entities.

U.S. businesses have tested stablecoins within existing treasury processes

In July, Hyundai Motor America and Hyundai Motor Mexico tested a treasury transfer using Tether’s USDT, according to Tether. The companies moved $20,000 over Avalanche, with the transfer and verification taking about seven minutes.

Tether said Hyundai’s U.S. operation converted dollars into USDT before sending the funds to Mexico, where they were converted back into dollars. Axiym supplied settlement infrastructure, while Hyundai Card designed the remittance structure and managed the trial’s regulatory, compliance, accounting and operational requirements.

According to Tether, the test examined whether stablecoins could fit existing corporate treasury processes without changes to governance, compliance or accounting frameworks. The company said subsequent testing would cover additional payment corridors and settlement in local currencies.

On Oct. 5, stablecoin payments provider Rain sought a trust-bank charter from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. According to its announcement, the proposed New York-based subsidiary would provide custody for digital assets and dollars, manage stablecoin reserves, and issue and redeem dollar-backed stablecoins if approved.

Rain said the proposed institution would operate separately from its payments platform under OCC supervision. The company said the bank would not accept deposits, offer checking or savings accounts, or make commercial loans, and would operate without FDIC deposit insurance.
