Police in Kiryandongo District have arrested an anaesthetist attached to Kiryandongo General Hospital over allegations of extorting Shs150,000 from a patient’s relative during an emergency operation.
The suspect, who resides in the hospital staff quarters in Kiryandongo Town Council, was arrested on Tuesday at about 8pm.
Solomon Mugisa, the Albertine North Regional Community Liaison Officer and acting regional police spokesperson, said the incident involved a 22-year-old patient, Winnie Zamukunda, who had been taken to the theatre for emergency surgery.
Mugisa urged members of the public to report cases of extortion, assuring them that police would take action against suspects.
He said reporting such incidents would enable police to respond promptly and arrest those implicated.
