SUWON — The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization has overhauled the souvenirs given to hikers who complete the Peace Nuri Trail, timing the change to the autumn walking season. The organization said on the 20th that the new lineup took effect on the 19th for walkers who finish all sections of the trail.
The Peace Nuri Trail is a flagship walking route linking Gimpo, Goyang, Paju and Yeoncheon, four cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province's border region. It runs about 189 kilometers across 12 sections.
The route follows the Han River estuary, the Imjin River and the natural landscapes of the border area, drawing a steady following among walkers. The organization said the revamp is intended to encourage new visitors to attempt their first full hike and to prompt previous finishers to walk the route again.
The new souvenirs center on traditional crafts designed as keepsakes. A handmade wooden completion tag and a scroll-style completion certificate have been added to the master badge and section pin badges already offered.
The handmade tag is a traditional woodcraft item produced with a woodworking studio in Paju's Heyri Art Village. Shaped as a bag charm, it is meant to be both practical and commemorative.
The scroll-style certificate draws on traditional formats to emphasize the significance and honor of completing the trail. The organization said the aim is to turn the experience into a lasting memento rather than a simple certification.
The gifts go to first-time finishers who walk every section and complete verification. Walkers who have finished the trail before but have recently walked all sections again and filed a new verification request are also eligible.
Past completion records alone do not qualify for retroactive awards. The additional souvenirs are provided only to those who have actually completed a repeat hike.
An engraving service is also available for visitors. At the Peace Nuri Trail Eoullim Center in Yeoncheon, walkers can have their name, completion number and completion date engraved on the handmade wooden tag.
Those who complete verification in person on site receive the engraved souvenir immediately. Walkers who apply online and receive their souvenirs by delivery can also use the engraving service at any time by bringing the tag to the center.
Further details are available at the official Peace Nuri Trail online community run by Gyeonggi Province and at the Peace Nuri Trail Eoullim Center.
"We prepared these carefully made completion souvenirs so that travelers can commemorate the footsteps and memories they leave behind more meaningfully," an official at the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization said. "We hope many walkers take on the challenge of completing the Peace Nuri Trail and receive their own engraved wooden tag and scroll-style certificate."
