The Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud has pushed back against critics questioning Marvin Harrison Jr.’s passion for football. Stroud believes outsiders have been too quick to judge the young receiver without understanding his personality or experiences.
Harrison Jr. arrived in Houston looking to rebuild momentum after an uneven start to his NFL career. However, Stroud has urged people to reconsider their assumptions about the receiver, insisting that criticism does not tell the full story.
CJ Stroud Defends Marvin Harrison Jr. Against Outside Criticism
Stroud addressed the discussion surrounding Harrison Jr. after the Texans began working with their new receiver. He questioned why people felt compelled to make harsh judgments about someone they did not fully understand. The quarterback also drew from his own experiences with public scrutiny. Having faced shifting opinions throughout his career.
“I think a lot of people like to diagnose people when they can’t understand and don’t understand. Everybody has the right to their own opinion but you don’t always have to diagnose somebody that harsh, that they fell out of love with the game or whatever the case may be.”
CJ Stroud gave a pretty profound answer when asked about Marvin Harrison Jr. seemingly finding his love for football again in Houston.

Stroud also defended Harrison Jr.’s time with the Arizona Cardinals, emphasizing that the receiver had continued working hard. He rejected the suggestion that Harrison Jr. had lost his passion for the sport.
The message reflected Stroud’s belief that a quiet personality should not be mistaken for a lack of commitment. He described Harrison Jr. as someone who keeps his head down and focuses on his work rather than seeking attention.
That distinction matters as Harrison Jr. begins another chapter with the Texans. Selected fourth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, he entered the league with considerable expectations. His performances have since attracted scrutiny, with critics questioning whether he can consistently meet those expectations.
Yet Stroud believes outside opinions should not define a player’s identity or potential. He has experienced the same cycle of praise and criticism after moving from an outstanding rookie season to a career that has attracted greater scrutiny. Stroud previously explained that athletes must learn to separate public perception from their own understanding of their abilities. He acknowledged that criticism comes with professional football but stressed that players ultimately decide how much influence it has over them.
His perspective could prove valuable for Harrison Jr. as he works to establish himself in Houston. The two now share a locker room and a common experience of being judged against high expectations. However, Stroud’s defense was not simply about protecting a teammate from criticism. It was also a reminder that disappointing performances do not automatically reveal a player’s attitude toward the game.
Harrison Jr. still has work to do to establish consistency at the professional level. Nevertheless, Stroud wants critics to judge him on his performance rather than assumptions about his commitment. For now, the Texans quarterback has made his position clear. He believes Harrison Jr. remains passionate about football and deserves the opportunity to prove himself without unfair personal judgments.
