Nothing lasts forever – but if there’s one thing in the world that has a good chance of coming close, it’s UK institution Coronation Street.
And regular award winner Vicky Myers wants to stick with the show long term, indicating that she can’t see a time when she would choose to leave.
Which is great news for Swarla fans, who have closely followed the turbulent but moving love story between Lisa and Carla Connor-Swain.
Playing alongside Alison King as Carla, Lisa has gone from a fierce recurring detective who popped up every time someone was bumped off, to the heart of Weatherfield, combining her (sometimes ropey) detective skills with insights into her personal life and a beautiful connection with Carla.
We also saw the debut of Lisa’s daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin), sealing a family unit which has also drawn in everyone’s amiable favourite Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott).
Up Next
For now, all is well in Swarla land. Having come through several roadblocks, not least of all the zombie ex who shall not be named, the couple are now married and looking to the future.
Their next battle will be with opportunistic business schemer Idris Nazir (Junade Khan), who seems to have his eye on the regularly at risk Underworld.
And Lisa will be along for the ride throughout that and whatever comes beyond.
Given the hotbed of slow motion flashforward ridden crime that Weatherfield has become of late, we will always need our friendly neighbourhood DS.
But there is one condition that Vicky has – Lisa can never get boring!
‘As long as she challenges me, then I’ll stay forever,’ she told The Mirror.
‘I think it will be interesting to explore her family backstory, and why she’s not in touch with any of them. What happened to her as a child, what’s her story, and what was her journey with her sexuality?
‘When did she realise that she was queer? All of these things intrigue me with her. Lisa’s a bit of an enigma. We don’t know everything about her.’
Given Coronation Street have a lot to play with here – and the fact the fanbase will always be hungry for more – it seems that Vicky is guaranteed to be sticking around for the forseeable.
