Deion Sanders and Colorado on Tuesday confirmed that Isaac Wilson will start Saturday’s game against No. 11 Utah. The decision is a confirmation of what happened on Oct. 4, when the Buffaloes started Wilson in their 29-7 defeat to then-No. 12 Texas Tech.
Against the Red Raiders, he threw for 290 yards, with one touchdown and three interceptions. His completion percentage was 59.1%. The decision to announce him as this week’s starter seems to permanently downgrade sophomore Julian Lewis to QB2. Wilson, a junior who transferred from Utah during the offseason, replaced Lewis during a 23-13 loss at Baylor on Sept. 26. CU (2-3, 0-2 Big 12) has lost three consecutive games.
Fans reacted to the news with confusion about how Deion Sanders leads his program.
“Unserious program,” one fan wrote.
Others pointed out that Julian Lewis didn’t live up to expectations.
Some fans also reminded the public that Isaac Wilson is the brother of NFL quarterback Zach Wilson.
Deion Sanders’ advice to Isaac Wilson for the game against Utah
At Tuesday’s news conference, Deion Sanders confirmed that Isaac Wilson, a Utah transfer, will have his second career start against his former school, Utah (5-0, 2-0), at home on Saturday. While confirming that he believes in the player’s ability to pull off the work, he was asked what advice he had for the player.
“Make sure you throw the ball to the guys on our team,” Sanders said he told Wilson recently.
Wilson played in 10 games, making seven starts, in two seasons at Utah. He went 2-5 with the Utes.
