MGI Research puts revenue leakage at "at least three to five percent of every company's revenue." Most of it slips through the gap between what customers used and what anyone can prove they used.
That makes enterprise software monetization a data problem before it's a pricing problem (a meter that double-counts on retries is funny exactly once), so here are eight platforms, judged on what they know about your usage and when they know it.
The quick version, if you're between meetings:
When the question is who knows your customers' usage the moment it happens, Stigg is the best enterprise software monetization pick: its usage runtime checks entitlements and deducts credits in the request path, alongside your billing system.
Zuora owns the invoice and revenue-recognition record, while Metronome and Orb keep raw usage events for rating and invoicing. Stripe Billing holds the subscription and payment data next to your Stripe charges.
Chargebee keeps the subscription revenue record, Thales Sentinel tracks installed-software license usage, and 10Duke ties every license to a signed-in user identity.

Why usage data decides enterprise software monetization
Revenue leakage rarely comes from one dramatic bug. BCG reports that 45% of executives said revenue leakage is a systemic problem, which matches how it shows up: a usage event that never reached billing, a credit grant nobody expired, or an amendment that changed the invoice and missed the product.
Reconciliation is the tax you pay when two systems disagree about usage. If product logs and the billing meter show different token counts for the same customer, finance spends days picking a number (usually in the reconciliation meeting nobody wants), and trust in every invoice drops a little.
Finance trusts data it can trace back to the event. So the useful question for each tool on this list is simple: which usage and revenue records does it own, and how soon after the event does it know?
1. Stigg: entitlement decisions, credit balances, and live usage
Good fit: AI-native companies selling credits, tokens, or wallets, and enterprise SaaS teams adding usage pricing on top of seats, where engineering leaders own the integration and sign off on it.
The data story: It owns the decision record. Entitlements (the rules for which features, limits, and credit balances each customer gets) resolve from plan, add-ons, overrides, and credit balance, and it publishes p99 entitlement-check latency under 10ms.
Credits sit in an append-only ledger that tags every deduction by customer, agent, feature, model, and grant source. Each usage report carries an idempotency key, so a retried request is counted once, and usage syncs to Snowflake, BigQuery, or Databricks for reporting.
BYOC (Bring Your Own Cloud, in early access) keeps raw events inside your AWS, GCP, or Azure account and sends only aggregated totals out for billing, at 1M+ events per second. Webflow had been losing 500+ engineering hours a year to billing-related work before moving to this runtime.
On reliability, the sidecar serves reads from a local cache, a cache miss reaches the Edge API in around 100ms, and Scale and BYOC plans carry up to a 99.99% uptime SLA. It works alongside Stripe, Zuora, and Chargebee, and provisions enterprise accounts straight from Salesforce.
Price check: As of October 2026, Build is free (10,000 managed entities and 5M usage events a month), Pro is $399/month billed annually or $499 month-to-month, and Scale and BYOC are custom-priced.
Gaps: It doesn't collect payments, calculate tax, or recognize revenue, so those records stay with your billing provider and ERP. Its contract invoicing module is still in beta, so plan on handing usage and entitlement data to the finance stack you already run.
2. Zuora: invoices, revenue schedules, and the audit trail
Zuora is the strongest enterprise pick for revenue data that has to survive an audit.
Good fit: Mid-market and enterprise subscription and usage businesses in SaaS, media, telecom, and manufacturing, where finance runs quote-to-cash and revenue recognition in one suite.
The data story: Zuora Revenue automates all five ASC 606 steps, aligns with IFRS 15, and ships 60+ prebuilt reports with connectors to NetSuite and Workday. Its homepage says no Zuora public customer has failed a revenue audit.
On the billing side, usage events are rated in real time, and Zuora says its usage stack handles up to 3B raw usage events per day. The June 2026 AI Monetization Suite adds an AI Pricing Simulator and Flexible Commitments that draw down across usage, recurring, and one-time charges.
Snowflake sits on its integration list for downstream analysis, and Zoom has run its business on Zuora since 2015. Zuora went private under Silver Lake and GIC in February 2025.
Price check: As of October 2026, Zuora uses custom pricing with no published tiers.
Gaps: Its data lives on the finance side, so in-app access enforcement relies on your own app or integrations. Implementations are scoped projects, which is why Zuora launched its Milo implementation agent in July 2026 to shorten go-lives.
3. Metronome: raw usage events and contract-level rating
Good fit: AI, infrastructure, and SaaS companies with consumption pricing and enterprise contracts, including cloud-marketplace deals. Metronome is now part of Stripe (the acquisition completed on January 14, 2026) and sells as an add-on to Stripe Billing.
The data story: It keeps raw events and runs SQL-based metrics on them without pre-aggregating, so a billing question can go back to the original data. Its streaming billable metrics drive low-latency alerts when usage, credits, or spend cross a threshold.
Stripe says Metronome handles billions of events per day and 100K+ events per second, and its page reports $1.7B in usage revenue invoiced monthly. Stripe also says the engine powers OpenAI, Anthropic, and NVIDIA.
Custom plans add data exports to your warehouse and BI tools, priced at $0.03 per 1,000 standard exports, plus invoicing integrations with Salesforce and NetSuite.
Price check: As of October 2026, the Startup plan bills 0.8% of billing volume plus $0.04 per 1,000 ingested events, the Custom plan is quote-based, and card processing comes on top.
Gaps: Its data covers metering, rating, invoicing, and spend alerts, and its pages describe no in-app feature gating. Getting full value from SQL metrics also assumes your team invests in clean event pipelines.
4. Orb: SQL metrics and pricing simulations on historical usage
Good fit: AI and SaaS companies with usage, hybrid, or credit pricing, product-led or sales-led. Orb calls itself "the revenue design platform," and Replit, Glean, Vercel, and Supabase run revenue on it.
The data story: Every billable metric is custom SQL over raw events, and Simulations test pricing changes against historical usage before you ship them. When late data arrives, Orb recalculates affected invoices automatically, and backdated amendments skip the manual fixes.
Its docs cite hosted rollups handling 1M+ billing events per second in production deployments. The Advanced tier syncs to Snowflake, Redshift, and other warehouse destinations, and revenue recognition exports track recognized and deferred revenue.
Supabase processes over 1.5 million invoices a month through it, and Vercel cut its need for temporary staff to run manual reconciliation by 50%.
Price check: As of October 2026, Core, Advanced, and Enterprise all use custom pricing, with no self-serve tier.
Gaps: It's hosted on Orb's AWS infrastructure with no self-hosted option listed, which matters if your security team wants raw usage inside your own cloud. Entitlements and in-app feature gating aren't described as a product.
5. Stripe Billing: the subscription and payment record
Good fit: Companies already processing payments on Stripe, from startups to enterprises on custom pricing. Stripe says Billing serves 350,000+ companies, and its FAQ names Anthropic, Atlassian, and Figma.
The data story: Subscriptions, invoices, payments, and recovery data live side by side, and billing analytics refresh with under 1-hour freshness. Basic usage flows through the Meters API, with up to 100M events a month included and a limit of 1,000 meter-event calls per second per account.
Recovery tools sit on that same record, and Stripe reports $8.2B in failed payments recovered in 2025. Data warehouse sync, automated reconciliation, and ASC 606 revenue recognition are all available at additional cost.
Price check: As of October 2026, pay-as-you-go is 0.7% of Billing volume, annual plans start at $620/month for up to $100,000 in monthly volume, and $1M+ a month is custom. Card fees (2.9% + 30¢) come on top.
Gaps: Advanced usage-based pricing and high-volume metering are sold separately through Metronome. Entitlements toggle features by subscription status with no usage limits or quotas, and billing credits apply at invoice finalization, so live balance data sits outside it.
6. Chargebee: the subscription revenue record across entities
Good fit: B2B SaaS and AI companies, consumer subscription brands, and multi-entity enterprises that run the subscription lifecycle and revenue operations together. It's a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Recurring Billing Applications for the third consecutive year.
The data story: Billing, Receivables, RevRec, and CPQ share one billing record, so a quote, an invoice, a collections case, and a revenue schedule all trace back to the same customer. Receivables scores risk, runs reminder sequences, and drafts resolutions with a human in the loop.
It has added usage metering at up to 200K events per second with near-real-time aggregation, ingesting from S3, data warehouses, flat files, or the API. The Enterprise plan exports data to GCS, Amazon S3, Snowflake, and your BI stack.
The Chargebee MCP server also connects live billing data to Claude, Cursor, and other AI tools, so finance can ask revenue questions in plain language.
Price check: As of October 2026, Flow costs 0.80% of invoicing volume with no platform fee, or $99/month plus 0.65%, and Enterprise is custom.
Gaps: Warehouse export, NetSuite, Salesforce, and multi-entity sit behind Enterprise or paid add-ons. Each account lives in one hosting region (AU, US, or EU), so multi-region data means a separate account per region.
7. Thales Sentinel: license and usage records from installed software
Thales Sentinel is the best pick here when the usage you need to count happens on machines you don't control.
Good fit: Software and device vendors whose products run on-prem, embedded, offline, or air-gapped, in fields like MedTech, IoT, industrial automation, CAD, and AI. Thales reports more than 10,000 Sentinel customers in over 100 countries.
The data story: Sentinel Usage Intelligence generates, collects, mediates, and visualizes usage analytics, including usage from offline or semi-connected deployments. It supports prepaid, postpaid, and hybrid usage-based pricing models.
Sentinel EMS tracks entitlements against purchases across on-premise, cloud, or hybrid deployments, and Sentinel Pulse shows license utilization inside Salesforce. Enforcement comes from Sentinel LDK keys, with Envelope protecting code and AI models.
Michelin manages all of its software licensing on Sentinel, across offline, hybrid, and cloud-only products.
Price check: As of October 2026, Thales Sentinel uses custom pricing (quote only), with a 30-day free trial.
Gaps: It licenses and tracks usage, so invoicing and revenue recognition need a separate billing system. Its AI token-licensing case study (CXIST) describes token pricing as a plan, so ask for live references if tokens are your use case.
8. 10Duke: license usage tied to who signed in
Good fit: ISVs selling desktop, SaaS, mobile, API, VM, and device software, especially teams replacing an in-house licensing system. Customers include Trimble, Seequent, Maxon, and Steinberg.
The data story: Every license decision is tied to a signed-in user, and 10Duke says it's the only provider offering both licensing and customer identity in one solution. 10Duke Insights adds analytics on license usage across products.
Trimble's Tekla deployment runs more than a million license checks a day across six products and 80K users. Causeway Technologies uses it for licensing, customer identity, and usage insights across its 13 applications.
The company completed a SOC 2 Type II audit in March 2026 and cites 99.99% API uptime, and metered usage can pass to billing engines such as Stripe.
Price check: As of October 2026, 10Duke Licensing starts at $199 per month with a free 30-day trial, then moves to quote-based pricing.
Gaps: Invoicing, revenue recognition, and AI-credit billing sit in a separate system. Its AI-companies page discusses token and credit pricing models without claiming native credit wallets.
Which system should own each usage record?
Pick one owner per record and write it down. The runtime owns the live balance and the entitlement decision, the billing tool owns the invoice, and the ERP owns recognized revenue.
Trouble starts when two systems both think they own usage. If a meter in billing and a counter in your app both count tokens, they'll drift apart eventually, and nobody can say which one the contract meant.
So send each usage event once, with an idempotency key, to the system that enforces it, and let that system pass totals downstream to billing and the warehouse.
Questions to ask about data before you buy
Bring these to every demo, and ask the vendor to answer with a live sandbox:
Where do raw events live, and can you query them after they're rated?
How soon after an event can the product act on it: in milliseconds, in minutes, or at invoice time?
What happens to a duplicate event or one that arrives a day late?
Which warehouse destinations are included, and which cost extra?
Can you replay last quarter's usage against a new price before launch?
The one I'd push hardest on is the second, because a tool that learns about usage at invoice time can bill for overage but can't stop it.
The cheapest platform is the one that stops the leaks
Run the math with MGI Research's range. On a hypothetical $50M in annual revenue, three percent leakage is $1.5M a year and five percent is $2.5M, which dwarfs most software line items on this page.
Compare that with the prices above. The runtime at #1 costs $399 a month on Pro billed annually, BYOC starts from $40K a year, and Stripe Billing's pay-as-you-go rate is 0.7% of volume.
The in-house route carries its own price tag. A team of three to five engineers on monetization infrastructure is a permanent, seven-figure line item that produces no differentiated product value.
So price each tool against the leak and the reconciliation hours it removes, and the sticker stops looking like the scary number.
FAQ
What is enterprise software monetization?
Enterprise software monetization is the set of systems that turn product usage, contracts, and licenses into enforced access and accurate revenue. It spans licensing, entitlements, usage metering, billing, and revenue recognition, which is why the tools on this list split into different layers.
How do enterprise software companies reduce revenue leakage?
They give each usage record one owner and reconcile against it automatically, so no event goes unbilled or gets billed twice. Idempotent ingestion, limits enforced at the point of use, and automatic recalculation for late data (Orb does this on affected invoices) close the most common gaps.
Which enterprise monetization platforms support usage data in a data warehouse?
Orb, Chargebee, and Metronome export usage data to warehouses like Snowflake on higher tiers, and Stripe Billing sells warehouse sync as an add-on. Orb also syncs to Redshift, Chargebee Enterprise to S3 and GCS, and the #1 runtime to BigQuery and Databricks.
