Former governors of Kogi and Jigawa states, Yahaya Bello and Abubakar Badaru, and several other ex-governors and ministers are seated for closed-door talks with Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Our correspondent observed that the delegation identified as the leadership of the National Directorate of Arewa for Asiwaju Movement entered the premises at about 4 pm.
They were led straight to the Vice President’s wing of the State House.
At the time of their arrival, however, Shettima was still attending another meeting at the President’s wing which began at about 02:00 pm.
Attending that meeting were the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, and the Special Adviser to the President and Coordinator of the Presidential Livestock Reform, Prof. Attahiru Jega, among others.
Jega is a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The purpose of the delegation’s visit is not known as of this report.
However, our correspondent gathered that it was a courtesy visit. Also spotted are former Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, Director General of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brig Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala-Usman, among others.
The meeting comes barely 48 hours before the planned inauguration of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, which is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14, at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.
It also comes 12 days before the party’s campaign flag-off in Kaduna State on October 24.
The Director-General of the council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, revealed both dates to State House Correspondents on Friday after briefing President Bola Tinubu at the Villa.
Yari said the campaign would move on to Port Harcourt and Maiduguri after Kaduna. The full schedule is to be released after the council is inaugurated, he stated.
Tinubu is seeking re-election in the presidential poll on January 16, 2027.
