Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said Greece will continue supporting Ukraine but will not make decisions that undermine its own defense capabilities.
Speaking in Brussels, Mitsotakis responded to questions about a possible transfer of Patriot interceptor missiles from Greek stockpiles. “We have supported Ukraine by providing significant air defense capabilities from our stockpiles,” he said. “At the same time, I want to be completely frank: we will do everything possible to support Ukraine without undermining Greece’s defense capabilities.”
He noted Greece is in a sensitive security region with other obligations, but emphasized that Athens stands with Ukraine.
According to Kathimerini, Ukraine had requested up to 200 PAC-2 missiles, some of which are nearing the end of their service life after more than two decades with the Greek Air Force. Reports indicate both Spain and Greece have declined to transfer expiring Patriot interceptors.
