Residents of Lwemiyaga County in Sembabule District have endorsed Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for president in the 2031 general elections, with Lwemiyaga County MP Emmanuel Rwashande leading the mobilisation exercise.
The endorsement comes amid growing efforts by members and supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) to rally support for Kainerugaba’s anticipated presidential bid in 2031.
The residents expressed their support during a gathering led by Rwashande, who has been mobilising communities in the area to participate in the endorsement campaign.
Rwashande said the move reflected the residents’ desire to have a say in determining the country’s future leadership.
The exercise forms part of a wider initiative by PLU supporters to collect endorsements from Ugandans across the country in support of Kainerugaba’s proposed presidential bid.
Kainerugaba, who chairs the PLU, has attracted support from political leaders and sections of the public as mobilisation activities ahead of the 2031 elections gather momentum.
In recent weeks, political leaders and residents in different parts of the country have participated in similar endorsement activities, expressing their leadership preferences and expectations for Uganda’s future.
Some residents who participated in the Lwemiyaga exercise said their decision was influenced by their expectations of the country’s future leadership.
Other participants called on leaders to prioritise the needs of ordinary Ugandans, including improved public services, employment opportunities, better healthcare and education.
The endorsement represents the views of those who participated in the exercise and does not necessarily reflect the position of every voter in Lwemiyaga County.
Rwashande’s involvement places him among the political leaders participating in the growing mobilisation campaign surrounding Kainerugaba’s proposed 2031 presidential bid.
As the exercise continues, organisers are expected to encourage more residents to register their support through the endorsement structures established by the PLU.
The wider campaign has attracted attention from political leaders and other public figures, with supporters presenting it as an opportunity for Ugandans to express their preferred candidate ahead of the next presidential election.
However, the 2031 presidential election remains several years away, and the endorsement exercise is distinct from the formal nomination and campaign processes that will be conducted under Uganda’s electoral laws.
