JOHOR BARU: A teenage girl has put her education on hold to care for her parents, both battling stage four cancer.
The family is struggling to raise RM10,000 for each cycle of her mother's urgent chemotherapy.
Nur Sara Ayryna, who stopped attending school to look after her parents, now faces the heartbreaking reality of seeing both of them fight for their lives.
Her mother, Noor Diana Hashim, 47, was diagnosed with breast cancer, which has now spread to her liver, lungs, spine and neck.
Her father, — 47-year-old Iman Heart nasyid band frontman Zek Ayry Khan Zarak Khan — has nasopharyngeal cancer.
Both are unable to work and cannot afford treatment.
Noor Diana is now dependent on oxygen around the clock.
They are appealing for help because time is running out. Noor Diana needs to undergo chemotherapy as soon as possible.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021 and underwent surgery the following year.
The doctors recommended urgent chemotherapy. However, delays due to patient waiting lists had forced the family to consider private treatment, which costs about RM10,000 per cycle.
Noor Diana's left arm is swollen; it developed after her breast surgery, had worsened and further restricted her movement.
The couple's eldest son is employed, while their second son works as a motorcycle mechanic.
The couple had managed an event management company and actively volunteered to help the needy, including asnaf, single mothers, people with disabilities and flood victims, in the past.
"We were blessed with good health then and never missed opportunities to help others. Now, we are the ones being tested, and we appeal for help so my wife can receive the treatment she needs," Zek said.
