Millions of South Africans who depend on social grants will receive their November payments on revised dates, with older persons set to receive their money as early as October 30, following changes approved by National Treasury ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) announced the revised payment schedule on Wednesday, October 14, saying the changes were necessary to prevent disruptions to social grant payments during the election period.
Under the new arrangements, older persons will receive their grants on Friday, October 30, while disability grants will be paid on Monday, November 2, and children's grants on Tuesday, November 3.
The agency said the decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders and was subsequently approved by National Treasury to ensure that millions of beneficiaries continue receiving their social assistance without interruption.
"The revised payment schedule follows extensive consultations between SASSA and various stakeholders to ensure that social grant payments continue to be administered efficiently, securely and with minimal disruption during the election period," SASSA said in a statement.
The agency added that the consultations had paved the way for the implementation of the revised schedule.
Older persons to receive grants in October
The revised payment dates mean that older persons, who would ordinarily receive their November grants during the first week of the month, will instead receive their money before October ends.
According to SASSA, the November 2026 payment schedule is as follows:
* Older Persons Grant: Friday, October 30, 2026.
* Disability Grant: Monday, November 2, 2026.
* Children's Grants: Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
SASSA said the adjustments were aimed at ensuring the smooth distribution of social assistance during the period surrounding the local government elections.
"SASSA emphasises that the adjustment is intended to support the smooth administration of social grant payments during the period surrounding the Local Government Elections," the agency said.
It further assured beneficiaries that the changes would not compromise the delivery of social assistance.
"The Agency remains committed to ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive their grants in an orderly and reliable manner."
Beneficiaries undergoing grant reviews urged to respond
Meanwhile, SASSA has reminded beneficiaries whose grants are currently under review to respond to official communication and attend scheduled appointments to avoid complications with their payments.
The agency confirmed that a fourth payment date, November 5, has been allocated specifically to beneficiaries whose grants are undergoing the review process.
"SASSA further reminds beneficiaries whose grants are under review to respond to official communication from the Agency and attend review appointments when requested," SASSA said.
"The fourth-day payment on 05 November 2026 is specifically intended for beneficiaries whose grants fall within the review process."
The agency's announcement comes as beneficiaries are being urged to comply with verification and review requirements to ensure the continued administration of their social assistance.
SASSA warns beneficiaries against misinformation
SASSA has also cautioned beneficiaries against making unnecessary trips to its offices following the announcement of the revised payment dates.
The agency stressed that payments would be processed according to the published schedule and encouraged beneficiaries to rely on official communication channels for accurate information.
"The Agency urges beneficiaries not to rush to SASSA offices unnecessarily, as grant payments will be processed according to the announced schedule."
It further warned beneficiaries to guard against misinformation and disinformation surrounding social grant payments, particularly as the election period approaches.
SASSA said protecting the integrity of the social assistance system remained a priority as it worked to ensure that beneficiaries continued receiving financial support.
"SASSA remains committed to safeguarding the integrity of the social assistance system while ensuring continued access to social grants for millions of South Africans who depend on this vital support."
The agency reiterated that the revised arrangements were designed to maintain efficient and reliable payments during the election period.
