Likius Nande described his victory at the 2026 Ongos Windhoek Open as a rewarding weekend after outplaying Namibia’s top junior golfer, Sam Nel, by three strokes at Windhoek Golf Club over the weekend.
“Overall, it was a great weekend. My game felt great before the tournament, so I was comfortable over the ball all weekend. The conditions were tough, but I managed to put together three solid rounds to finish as the only player under par from a field of 103 players,” Nande said.
Nande carded a three-round total of 215 to claim the overall best gross title, finishing ahead of Nel, who posted 218, as more than 100 golfers from Namibia and South Africa competed in the tournament on 17 and 18 October.
He opened with a 72, improved to 71 in the second round and closed with another 72 to secure the title.
Nel, meanwhile, produced a strong second round of 69 after opening with 73, but his final-round 76 left him three strokes behind the winner.
Despite a challenging heatwave and demanding greens, the tournament delivered an exciting contest, testing players’ consistency and ability to perform under pressure.
Nande expressed satisfaction with both his victory and the organisation of the tournament.
“Happy with the win and the way the tournament was organised. This is without a doubt the best tournament we have in the country. It was also great to see junior golfers playing in the leading groups and competing against the top players in the country,” he said.
He thanked Ongos Valley and DZ Golf for putting the tournament together.
In other categories, Simon Heinrich claimed the overall best net title with a total of 218, while Antonio Gamito finished runner-up in 219.
In the ladies’ competition, Anecia Le Grange won the overall best gross title with a two-round total of 172, finishing ahead of Anja Wessels, who recorded 187.
Namibia Amateur Golf Union president and Windhoek Golf Club captain Toady Gurirab thanked Ongos Valley for partnering with the club to stage the tournament. He also commended players who travelled from across Namibia and South Africa to participate.
Gurirab further acknowledged tournament organiser Dan Zwibel, the club’s management and staff, the course management team, marshals and starters for their contributions to the successful staging of the event.
The tournament highlighted the role of partnerships in promoting competitive golf in Namibia while providing a platform for established players and emerging talent to showcase their abilities.
