BUSAN — Six vocational high school students in Busan have been selected for a hiring-track training program run by Korea Aerospace Industries, the country's leading aerospace company, in a result the city's education authorities called proof of the value of hands-on vocational training.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education said on the 20th that six third-year students at local vocational high schools had passed the final selection for the KAI track of the hiring-track job training program for vocational high schools, which is jointly run by the Ministry of Education and metropolitan and provincial education offices.
KAI selected a total of 50 vocational high school students nationwide this year, and Busan students accounted for 12% of them. By school, three came from Busan Aviation High School, two from Busan Mechanical Technical High School and one from Busan Automotive Meister High School. The figure is up from four last year, underscoring the competitiveness of vocational training in aviation, machinery and automotive work, the region's main technical fields.
The six students will complete two months of company-tailored job training at an aviation vocational college starting next month before being formally hired by KAI.
The education office said it would continue to strengthen vocational training geared to industry demand and expand employment support linked to local industry.
"This result is the fruit of the students' efforts combined with the specialized education their schools provided," Superintendent Kim Seok-joon said. "We will spare no support so that students can use their majors to move into strong companies and grow into the core technical talent that will lead local industry."
