MyDigital ID will enhance cybersecurity with quantum-resistant encryption as registrations reach 14.2 million and login transactions exceed 82 million
KUALA LUMPUR: MyDigital ID will continue to be strengthened through long-term planning and technological enhancements, including preparations to adopt Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) to address emerging cybersecurity threats posed by quantum computers.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the preparations also involved a crypto-agility approach, which enables systems to transition to new cryptographic algorithms in a structured manner, in line with evolving international standards and the National Cryptography Policy (MyKriptografi).
He said that, in terms of security, MyDigital ID uses Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), which requires users to undergo more than one layer of verification before access is granted.
“The measure aims to strengthen the security of users’ digital identities and reduce the risk of data breaches, fraud, impersonation and identity theft when accessing online services integrated with MyDigital ID,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid said this in a written reply published on the Parliament website in response to a question from Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (PN-Masjid Tanah) on the cryptographic security mechanisms used by MyDigital ID.
Ahmad Zahid said MyDigital ID employs various cryptographic security mechanisms to safeguard the confidentiality and integrity of citizens’ digital identities.
“The government remains committed to ensuring the security of Malaysians’ digital identities.
“This commitment is in line with the government’s aspiration to strengthen the nation’s digital ecosystem while boosting public confidence in online government services,” he said.
He said that, as of Oct 7, a total of 14.2 million people had registered for MyDigital ID, which had recorded 82.75 million login transactions cumulatively since 2024.
Daily usage has also exceeded 200,000 transactions, following the expansion of the platform to support more than 200 applications and digital services across the public and private sectors.
