Robin Meißner had given the visitors an early lead after capitalising on a defensive error, but Maximilian Bauer quickly restored parity for Oliver Kirch’s side. With the contest finely balanced heading into the closing stages, Jannik Rochelt struck late to secure all three points for the hosts.
Bielefeld started on the front foot but were almost punished inside the opening stages when Stefano Russo’s under-hit back-pass presented Meißner with a golden opportunity. The Osnabrück forward intercepted the ball but could only steer his effort wide of the right-hand post.
The visitors made no mistake with their next opportunity in the 16th minute. Another misplaced pass in the Bielefeld defence allowed Meißner to race through on goal, round goalkeeper Jonas Kersken and slot into the unguarded net to put Osnabrück ahead.
However, the hosts responded positively and restored parity just 10 minutes later. Arne Sicker delivered a dangerous free-kick into the penalty area, where Bauer rose to meet the cross and headed home from close range to make it 1-1.
The equaliser sparked a more evenly contested period, with neither side able to establish a clear advantage before the interval. Osnabrück had threatened through their pressing and ability to exploit defensive mistakes, while Bielefeld looked increasingly dangerous from set-pieces.
The second half continued in a similar fashion, with both teams searching for a breakthrough. Bielefeld gradually increased the pressure and came close to taking the lead when Joel Grodowski met a teasing cross with a header, only to see his effort strike the post in the 64th minute.
As the match entered its final stages, the hosts continued to push forward in search of a winner. Their persistence was eventually rewarded in the 85th minute when Rochelt found the net to put Bielefeld 2-1 ahead and send the home supporters into celebration.
Osnabrück were left with little time to respond, and Bielefeld held on to secure a valuable victory in the regional rivalry.
The result gives Kirch’s side consecutive league wins following their 1-0 victory away to VfL Bochum last weekend, providing further momentum after an inconsistent start to the campaign.
For Osnabrück, the defeat represents a frustrating outcome after taking an early lead, with defensive mistakes ultimately proving costly as Bielefeld claimed all three points.
