HD Hyundai Robotics has unveiled its in-house developed "intelligent dual-arm robot" simultaneously in South Korea and the United States.
HD Hyundai Robotics, the robot solutions arm of HD Hyundai (267250.KS), presented the robot for the first time on the 21st at the Future Innovation Technology Expo 2026 (FIX 2026), which opened at EXCO in Daegu. The same day, the robot was also shown to North American customers at FABTECH 2026, the region's largest trade show for metal forming, fabricating, welding and finishing, held at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The intelligent dual-arm robot is a physical artificial intelligence robot built with a structure resembling the human upper body, including two arms and five fingers on each hand. The company expects it to address the structural limits of conventional industrial robots, which repeat standardized tasks within confined areas. HD Hyundai Robotics adopted an upper-body design after concluding that securing precision work capability using two arms and hands must come first to build a model optimized for front-line manufacturing sites.
Each arm of the newly disclosed robot has a payload capacity of 7 kilograms and a working radius of 630 millimeters. With a five-finger structure identical to a human hand, it can perform delicate tasks such as gripping and moving objects. The company plans to apply the robot first to bundling and assembly processes, then expand its use to welding, painting and other manufacturing operations.
To improve the robot's performance, HD Hyundai Robotics plans to work with Aidin Robotics, a robot sensing technology company in which it acquired a stake last month. The company also intends to upgrade mobility in stages, first adding a wheeled mobility platform and later securing bipedal walking technology.
"The development of the intelligent dual-arm robot is an important starting point for applying physical AI technology to industrial sites and expanding the areas where robots can be used," a company official said. "Based on the design, control and mass-production technology and know-how accumulated in the industrial robot market, we will move to take the lead in physical AI robot technology."
