Riyadh – Saudi Arabia announced the interception of 10 ballistic missiles, a cruise missile, and two drones launched by the Houthis from Yemen in less than 12 hours.
Saudi Arabia stated that it intercepted 10 ballistic missiles launched toward the southern region of the country. Reports indicated that a ballistic missile targeting Riyadh was intercepted, along with another missile heading toward the Khamis Mushait area in the south.
Explosions were heard in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on Sunday, with an AFP journalist reporting hearing three explosions in the early morning hours.
This followed the sending of warning messages to residents via mobile phones, alerting them to an "air threat" and urging them to take shelter.
Earlier on Saturday, Saudi Arabia announced the interception of three ballistic missiles targeting Riyadh, Taif, and Yanbu in the west of the country, in addition to a drone in one of the eastern provinces.
These developments come as Saudi authorities prepare to reopen Riyadh's international airport after a nearly two-week closure, despite ongoing attacks by the Houthis from Yemen.
The Houthis claimed responsibility on Saturday for attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, while media outlets affiliated with the group confirmed that Saudi forces launched airstrikes on the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, and other areas.
