The New England Patriots could follow a momentous Week 5 offensive outburst by welcoming back A.J. Brown.
Drake Maye rebounded from a rocky start to throw four touchdowns in Sunday's 45-17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The quarterback could soon get to target A.J. Brown.
Brown hasn't played since suffering a high ankle sprain in his team debut against the Seattle Seahawks, but the star wide receiver is now eligible to return from the injured list. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday's "Get Up" that the Patriots could activate Brown for a Week 6 clash against the New York Jets.
"He's moving quite well. He's made progress," Schefter said of Brown. "Again, Mike Vrabel has not said that he will be back. I think there's a chance he could be back as soon as this week. It certainly will not be very long before he's back."
Shortly before the ESPN segment, Vrabel declined to offer a specific timetable for Brown's return.
“I don't know whenever he’ll be back, but he should help us," Vrabel said during his weekly radio interview on The Greg Hill Show, via Carlos A. Lopez "I hope that he’s gonna help us, but that remains to be seen yet when he’ll be back. We’ll see how he does today and move from there."
Brown didn't have much time to adjust to New England's offense. The three-time Pro Bowler caught three of four targets for 26 yards before exiting the Week 1 game.

Maye initially struggled without the star offseason acquisition, throwing three interceptions and no touchdowns in back-to-back games. But last year's MVP runner-up has compiled seven passing touchdowns and a rushing score in consecutive wins over the Buffalo Bills and Raiders.
A healthy Brown could help the defending AFC champions stay back on track, and he could play as soon as this Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
