India had 1.11 billion (111.41 crore) internet subscriptions at the end of June 2026, an increase of 21.35 million (2.14 crore) from March, according to data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)’s April-June 2026 performance indicators.
Of these, 666.07 million (66.61 crore) subscriptions were in urban areas and 448.08 million (44.81 crore) in rural areas. Urban subscriptions grew by 14.15 million during the quarter, compared with 7.20 million in rural areas.
Which states had the most internet subscriptions?
Uttar Pradesh had the largest number of internet subscriptions in June 2026, followed by Maharashtra and Karnataka.
- Uttar Pradesh: 155.39 million (15.54 crore)
- Maharashtra: 130.10 million (13.01 crore)
- Karnataka: 71.69 million (7.17 crore)
Bihar, which ranked sixth with 67.67 million subscriptions, had more connections in rural areas (41.94 million) than in urban areas (25.73 million).

Delhi leads in internet subscriptions per 100 people
Delhi had 176.43 internet subscriptions for every 100 people, the highest among states and Union Territories. It was followed by Goa (146.65), Ladakh (146.48) and Chandigarh (121.27).

At the other end, Bihar had the lowest figure at 50.93 subscriptions per 100 people. Jharkhand followed at 56.77 and Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu at 57.01.
Uttar Pradesh had the most subscriptions overall, but only 63.82 for every 100 people.
These figures count internet connections, not individual users. A person can have multiple subscriptions. The data also includes some machine-to-machine SIM connections, which are used by devices rather than people.
TRAI began including Airtel’s machine-to-machine SIMs in its figures from the March 2026 quarter. This reporting change affects comparisons with older quarters.
