American rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs has been transferred from a correctional facility in New Jersey to a low-security federal prison in Pennsylvania, according to the US Federal Bureau of Prisons.
The BBC reported that the 56-year-old music mogul was moved to the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Allenwood Low on Friday, with a prison official declining to disclose the reason for the transfer, citing privacy, safety and security concerns.
“His transfer from one low-security facility to another is an important distinction,” Combs’ spokesman told the BBC, adding that the move “is consistent with a decision made with safety and security in mind”.
Combs, who is serving a 50-month prison sentence, has appealed to a federal appeals court to overturn his conviction on two prostitution-related offences and secure his release.
His spokesman, Juda S Engelmayer, did not comment on an Associated Press report alleging that Combs had been living a “luxury lifestyle” while incarcerated in New Jersey or on tabloid reports concerning his health and treatment in prison.
Engelmayer, however, said he appreciated the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ attention to the rapper’s welfare.
He said he was grateful that the agency was “taking the safety and security of Sean and everyone involved seriously” and added, “we are grateful for the attention being given to his well-being and hope he can continue serving his time without unnecessary disruption”.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons declined to comment on the reports surrounding Combs’ treatment in custody.
“For privacy, safety, and security reasons, we do not comment on the conditions of confinement for any incarcerated individual, including whether a particular individual is the subject of allegations, investigations, or disciplinary sanctions,” agency spokesman Donald Murphy said.
FCI Allenwood Low is a low-security federal correctional institution for male inmates located approximately 155 miles (250km) west of New York City.
According to the prison’s website, the facility accommodates about 1,044 inmates, considerably fewer than the more than 4,200 inmates housed across the two campuses at Fort Dix, where Combs had previously been held. Medium- and maximum-security facilities are also located near Allenwood.
Federal prosecutors in New York accused Combs of using his wealth, influence and threats of violence to coerce women into unwanted sexual encounters.
During his high-profile trial in New York last year, two of his former girlfriends testified that he abused them and forced them to participate in sexual encounters known as “freak-offs” involving male escorts.
In July 2025, a jury convicted Combs on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution but acquitted him of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.
He was sentenced to more than four years in prison in October 2025 and transferred to the federal correctional institution at Fort Dix in New Jersey later that month, where he remained until Friday’s transfer.
In April, a US appeals court heard arguments seeking to overturn his conviction and prison sentence but has yet to deliver a decision.
According to the prison’s online records, Combs is scheduled for release on March 2, 2028.
