Tata Power on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Imperial College London to collaborate on research, technology and knowledge exchange in the energy transition domain.
The partnership will focus on grid flexibility, energy storage, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) applications, and advanced energy systems.
The collaboration aligns with the India-UK Vision 2035, which identifies grid transformation, energy storage, hydrogen, carbon capture and AI as key areas for bilateral cooperation.
UK Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds said the partnership demonstrated how new trade deals could create opportunities. “... the partnership will help turn ideas into cleaner, smarter energy solutions – supporting good jobs and growth in both our countries,” he said.
Dr Praveer Sinha, CEO and managing director of Tata Power, said the collaboration would address emerging industry challenges and explore innovative solutions.
“The next generation of grids, storage and digital energy systems will need to work together to meet a rapidly evolving demand landscape. Our collaboration with Imperial College will help solve real-world industry challenges with deep research and new thinking and explore solutions that can be relevant not only to India’s energy journey, but also to the wider global transition,” Mr. Sinha said.
Tata Power, which has a diversified presence across the power value chain, has an operational and under-construction capacity exceeding 26 GW.
The partnership brings together Tata Power’s expertise in energy infrastructure and Imperial College London’s research capabilities in digital technologies and decarbonisation, as India and the UK deepen cooperation on clean energy and climate action.
Harjinder Kang, Trade Commissioner for South Asia and British Deputy High Commissioner for Western India, said: “Bringing together world-class UK research and Indian industrial expertise will help accelerate next-generation energy solutions, unlock new commercial opportunities and support sustainable growth in both countries.”
