In 2024, Marika Hackman released her sprawling fourth album Big Sigh. Now, the British singer-songwriter is announcing its followup called False Dogs. It arrives next year, but we get to hear the existential opener "33" today.
"'33' grapples with the dull ache of nostalgia, the apprehension of the future and the celebration of the moments in between. "Keep pushing, it's worth it," Hackman explains. False Dogs was produced, arranged and written by Hackman herself. "In trying to wrangle with the idea of what's 'expected' from us at certain ages, it allowed me to really reflect on all the things that make life wonderful — even at its bleakest," she expounded.
The single is short but intense as Hackman holds the past up to the present and tries to make sense of everything. "Oh but life is so beautiful/ When you hold it extra tight/ And you let it go," she concludes profoundly. It comes with a surreal video by JOFI Films; watch below.
